Montgomery County Elementary School Uniform Guidelines and Dress Code

Acceptable uniforms will include:
Shirt................................ Shirts will be polo style shirts without manufacturer or designer logos. The shirts may be worn as a solid shirt in the colors of red, navy, or royal blue. (Added 11/07: burgundy, light blue, black) The only writing or insignia may be as sold through the school where the student attends and may only provided by the school. The shirts may be long sleeved or short sleeved as desired by the individual student and her/his parents. Note: “Peter Pan” collars will be allowed under jumpers. White and uniform color long sleeved shirts will be allowed under short-sleeved uniform shirts.
Pants/slacks................... Pants/slacks will be cotton or cotton/polyester khakis in the colors tan or navy. Pants/slacks must be worn with a belt or may be elastic waist-ed without belt loops/belt. Pants/slacks may only be worn at the natural waist. Pants/slacks legs will not be cuffed. Pants/slacks may not be oversized and may not fit too tight. (Note: Cargo pants/shorts or pants/shorts with patch pockets on legs will not be allowed.) Boys will be allowed to wear shorts when appropriate and girls will be allowed shorts, skorts, and jumpers. Shorts and jumpers must come to at least just above the knee and “bloomers” must be worn with jumpers during physical education.
Belt................................. Belts will be worn with pants that have belt loops and may be either brown, cordovan (burgundy), or black leather or tan or navy web with silver or brass colored buckles. Buckles may not be larger in size than a credit card.
Shoes.............................. Shoes may be either black, brown, or cordovan (burgundy) leather or black, white, brown, tan, or navy canvas/fabric/synthetic “tennis”/“sneakers”/athletic style shoes. Unusual or outstanding colors such as fluorescent or excessively bright colors or with print or patterns will not be acceptable.
Dress-down days may be utilized as seen fit by the administration of each school. Such days will be used as rewards for those students that follow rules of conduct and academic performance or as otherwise determined and/or authorized by the principal. Dress code for dress down days will be stipulated and will closely resemble existing dress codes.
Please remember that the purpose for uniforms is to promote safety and enhance the educational environment. Costs will be less than what would be required for “regular” clothing and are available locally. The school will stock a small quantity of shirts and will assist in ordering if orders are placed by July 11th. (All orders must be pre-paid.) Sources for uniforms include:
